African ark open society institute Kasese Uganda



BACK GROUND
African Ark Open Society Institute started in 2004 -2007 under The Marie-Schlei-Verein Association of Germany agreed the institute of herbal medicine in Uganda to operate training programme for  women at certificate and diploma levels under the leadership of Kikumu Agriculture Research centre.  In 2010-2012 the Prem Rewat Foundation USA agreed the idea of vocational training as well as work AID UK to foster Education of vulnerable students in rural areas in Rwenzori Region.  Therefore the institute was started after Rwenzori Region Educational Research of 2007 theme of break down of rural women education, raised illiteracy and poverty.

PROBLEM STATEMENT.
In 2000 – 2007 rural Kasese in Rwenzori Region rocked with the waves of political wars and properties of rural poor were plundered.  Kasese and Bundubugyo Districts hard to reach areas had no  access to institutes that can help the needy students and a few collages in existing had no broad mind on vulnerability but transacting the Educational business.

African ark open society institute was started by Kikumu Agriculture Research Centre after and Act women foundation after psychometric assessment of needs of the poor women and students in the region so as to foster education.

ASSETS:
The institute has structures on 3 plots of land and structures behind western cotton Ginnery Kidodo village Kasese municipal council,Six acres of land in Nyamirngara Village Kasese Municipal Council for agriculture practicals.  We offer boarding and non boarding facilities.  This institute is mixed day and boarding institution which started in 2004 and affected by Kasese airport development project. We have primary school in names of African ark primary school  on one acre of land with assets value of 200,000,000 where it is opposite st.Peters church of Uganda Nyakasanga kasese Uganda .  It is with it’s premises with conducive reading and studding environment off Mbarara road.

PRACTICALS
The institute has vocational tools funded by Work Aid International UK , Library materials are funded  by CTA Netherlands and 6 acres for practical for agriculture students.

EXAMINATIONS
The institute is examined by UBTEB, DIT and Non UBTEB.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS.
  1. Four passes including English for certificate courses (UBTEB  credit 6 in English and Math).
  2. For Diploma one principal pass for non UBTEB and UBTEB two principal passes.
  3. Students can access Diploma if he/she has equivalent documents.
  4. Non formal students access admission on agreed courses.

SCHALERSHIP
The needy students are advised to pick application form from the office of the Director of admissions.  There are:
         i.            100% for ten people especially women needy with recommendations.
       ii.            30%
      iii.            50%

Requirements for scholarship and Bursaries:
         i.            Recommendation from LC I, LCIII, Village church, Baptism cared, death certificate for orphan.
       ii.            Recommendation from RDC, LCV, or Bishop if it’s church related.
      iii.            The Institute scholarship council shall determine the scholarship/ bursaries depending on student vulnerability and field assessments and recommendations from grass roots.
